Ten convicted of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to making defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she was a teacher at his high school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
